I received a Gourmet Chia Herb Garden for Christmas this year. I decided to start a "blog" like page on the site to post current pictures and progress with the garden.
It came with 6 different herbs, 4 ceramic pots, 4 soil sponges and markers for all the herbs. On New Years Day(1/01/2008), I decided to plant the Chives, Sweet Basil, Parsley and Cilantro.
On 1/5/2008, I purchased a grow light at Lowes. I got a simple two tube, two foot kit fixture and two plant spectrum grow lights. This is definitely helping the herbs grow. I decided to place my ailing Rosemary plant with the new Chia herbs as well. I started the garden on top of my fridge, per the directions, and when I got the grow light, I moved them to a shelf below the light.
The seeds are starting to sprout now, with the exception of the Parsley. Here's the progress as of today:
And they keep on sprouting! The Parsley is slow-growing...
With almost a week between the last shots and these, the seedlings are starting to get nice and big thanks to my grow light. The Cilantro is starting to list to the side and grow directly into the center of the grow light. I have moved it from the very side of the rack to the center and hope it changes course. Finally the Parsley is starting to show signs of life. I thought that they were doomed. Here's the progress 13 days after planting:
OK... I've slacked off and haven't taken any pictures in almost a month. Here's the status as of this evening:
I've slacked off again and neglected my internet fans! (as if I had any...) All the plants are doing well except the Cilantro is looking a little frail. I accidently didn't water the plants for 1 day and they started looking a little dry but they'll all come back in a couple days. Here's the progress as of today:
Stay tuned for more!
The plants are pretty much staying the way they are shown in the above last update. I've already used them in making baked chicken, spaghetti, and mexican dishes. The Cilantro is especially nice in the mexican rice dish.
If the plants get any bigger or fuller, I'll post some updates here. In the meantime, I'll consider them fully grown. Thanks for taking the time to keep posted about my Gourmet Chia Herb Garden!
Do they have a cherry tomatoes kit?
Josh,
I don't see a Cherry Tomato kit on Chia's homepage (http://www.jeiusa.com/usindex.html) but I found one here: http://www.amazon.com/AeroGarden-Cherry-Tomato-Seed-Kit/dp/B000FI2VHM although it is MUCH more expensive since you need the AeroGarden kit as well...
P.S. - I'm going to try to add tokens to these comments so I can Bold, Emphasize, hyperlink and insert images tonight. :)
Does it work now??
Josh,
Yes, Bold and Italic now work with the tokens listed below. I have yet to implement hyperlinks and images; it's proving to be more difficult than I thought...
My plants look like yours on day 13. My chives are tall but very frail. Should I transplant them into new containers or just leave them? What did you do. Do you water every day and do you use plant food.
Valerie,
I water my plants every day and that has kept them healthy. I've never given them plant food but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. I recommend you check the booklet that came with the plants and see what it says about plant food. I've lost track of mine. Just don't let them go more than a couple of days without water! They'll get brown pretty quick. I've found that the Parsley and Cilantro were the most frail and will wither away much quicker. The Chives and Sweet Basil are much more resilient.
I don't believe you will need to transplant the herbs; I've had them in their current containers for over a year and it works great!
I hope this helps!
i just got one and i have no clue what to do any advice where to look for info........help!!!!

I just got a chia herb garden, and now i'm looking forward to it!
i like the chia herb garden pictures and stuff but does it really work?
I just planted mine today. I did Chives, Cilantro and Sweet Basil. My kit only came with three pots, but 6 seed packets. Your site has helped me and I will compare my progress against yours. Thanks for sharing!
I'm so thrilled that I discovered your site. Thank you for the pics of your herbs!!!!!
The plants are now not doing so good. I've neglected them, sometimes to the point where they get withered, then I water them and they start to come back. If I get any additional photos, I'll get them posted here.
